Oceanology International 2018: Global exhibitors prepare to unveil new solutions as Oceanology International London 2018 opens tomorrow

Seventy-nine countries to be represented at the Oceanology International marine science exhibition and conference

London, 12 March 2018 – Marine industry professionals not already registered to attend this week’s Oceanology International 2018 exhibition and conference, running from Tuesday, March 13 to Thursday, March 15 in the ExCeL, London, are being urged to register today. Registration is free, and the organisers have pulled out all the stops – and then some – to ensure that this year’s exhibition showcase is the most comprehensive, constructive, informative and far-sighted undertaking to date in the world-leading event’s 49-year history.

“This year’s Oceanology International is the biggest and best yet in terms of bringing together the broadest possible selection of international exhibitors and industry experts,” remarks David Ince, Oceanology International Event Manager, Reed Exhibitions. “Over the years, Oi has proved invaluable as a means of enabling the global ocean community to network, conduct business and forge new professional relationships on a packed exhibition floor where the most vital developments in technology, industry and research are being highlighted. We anticipate great attendance with visitor numbers reflecting the sheer scale of the Oi18 exhibition, and there is still time for people to register before the show starts tomorrow and throughout the week.”

Just under 500 exhibitors from across the world will be present on the show floor. Many exhibitors and event partners will be hosting social events on their stands, while an extensive array of product demonstrations are promised, split between displays on the stands themselves and live equipment trials on the water in the adjacent Royal Victoria Dock.

The exhaustive list of exhibitors includes academics and government representatives as well as companies specialising in areas ranging from offshore construction, underwater communication and software development to geophysics, metrology and environmental management. Long-time exhibitors, including Kongsberg Maritime (stand D600), Oceanscan (stand F570), RBR (stand G551) and Miros AS (stand C250), will be joined by the likes of Zunibal (stand A405), Romona (stand H241) and KW Designed Solutions (stand B451), all of whom will be making their Oi debut.

Other first-time exhibitors include ION (stand A400), which will be introducing Marlin, the only commercially available marine intelligence system that combines temporal project planning with 3D spatial situational awareness to optimise operations, reduce costs and improve safety performance. ION will be hosting stand-based demonstrations of Marlin and additionally in the ExCeL’s Trade and Innovation Theatre on Wednesday, 14 March between 1.25–1.55pm. Also exhibiting for the first time will be the Norwegian firm Fosstech (stand C500), which will be launching its Pressure Operated Actuator and its brand-new Power/Fibre Optic Penetrator.

Returning exhibitors Planet Ocean Ltd (stand K100) will be displaying a wide range of new technology from partner firms, including the following: Ocean Sonics’ icListen SC-2 and SC-35 Hydrophone, plus a new battery pack and low-noise tow fish; Fluidion’s ALERT E.Coli monitoring and telemetry system; Sequoia Scientific’s particle systems; and Marine Sonic Technology’s military-grade side scan sonar system, the Sea Scan ARC Explorer Mk-II.

Significant developments in ROV and AUV capabilities will come under the spotlight on the exhibition floor. Canada’s Deep Trekker Inc (stand E600) will be exhibiting its DTG2 and DTX2 ROVs, both of which have integrated Blueprint multibeam imaging sonar technology and an ultra-short baseline locating system for underwater acoustic positioning. “These innovations improve obstacle avoidance and target recognition, and will lead to greater visibility and spatial awareness underwater,” comments Sam Macdonald, President at Deep Trekker Inc. “We’ll be demonstrating our ROVs on the dockside every day between 2.30-3.15pm, and attendees can try their hand at piloting the DTG2.”

Another Canadian firm exhibiting at Oi18 is International Submarine Engineering (ISE) Ltd (stand E401), which will be highlighting its range of AUVs, ROVs, manipulators and other ROV tooling. “Oceanology International is always extremely well attended,” says Phil Reynolds, ISE Business Development Manager, “and it’s an ideal venue to schedule meetings and gather information on potential business and product application, while assessing changes in the market landscape.”

Meanwhile, the UK-based Ocean Scientific International Ltd (stand L100), a long-term Oi exhibitor, will be returning to showcase its new ROV/AUV-mounted sediment corer, which was launched in January. Oi18 will provide the first opportunity for potential customers to view a demonstration model.

Other UK-based companies scheduled to exhibit at Oi18 include the newly-formed hydrographic survey, ROV and renewable industry recruitment specialists UTM Consultants Ltd (stand F551). Owners Richard Tozer and Alex Meeks have more than 30 years’ experience between them, and visitors to their UTM Consultants stand will have the chance to win a UTM Mastercard pre-loaded with £1,000 in the firm’s prize draw. Elsewhere, Xylem Analytics UK Ltd (stand F301) will be displaying its Aanderaa MOTUS packages, designed to collect reliable meteorological and oceanographic data. “MOTUS provides accurate directional wave and current data from standard navigation or environmental buoys,” comments Darren Hanson, Xylem Analytics UK General Manager.

For show visitors keen to savour a hands-on experience at Oi18, 3D at Depth will be inviting customers to its Virtual Reality Immersive Collaboration Lounge ‘Powered by iQ3Connect’ at stand G250. This new 3D data visualisation and analysis platform allows customers to transform the value of their offshore 3D data by providing access via any laptop, desktop or smart device through a secure web portal. “We will be conducting workshops and demonstrations of our portfolio of subsea LiDAR products, solutions and survey support services focused on a new tiered data management service,” says Neil Manning, 3D at Depth Chief Business Development Officer. “Customers participating in the workshops will also receive a set of VR goggles.”

Similarly, the UK’s Coda Octopus (stand A220) will be exhibiting its Construction Monitoring Software simulator. Visitors can step into the breakwater excavator crane simulator, and virtually operate the crane to complete a simulated breakwater using data from an Echoscope 3D sonar and Construction Monitoring Software (CMS).

“The beauty of Oi18 is that in addition to a truly formidable global line-up of exhibitors and highly targeted expert conference speakers, there are our parallel events to take into consideration,” notes David Ince. “The half-day Ocean Futures Forum on Tuesday, 13 March and Catch The Next Wave 2018: Frontiers of Exploration event on Thursday, March 15 will respectively deliver compelling insights on long-term ocean sustainability and the interdependency of technology and exploration, while the Entrepreneurs’ Advisory Workshop represents just one of many sources of crucial advice at the show for providers of new technologies.”
