Cox Powertrain: Cox Gears up for EU Demo Programme of Innovative Diesel Outboard

Monaco Yacht Show, 26th – 29th September 2018, Tenders and Toys Zone, Stand QA4

With just a month to go until the launch of the world’s first 300hp diesel outboard engine, British diesel engine innovator, Cox Powertrain is preparing for its much anticipated European on-water demonstrations of the CXO300 and will be urging all those interested in switching to a diesel outboard to sign up for a demonstration during this year’s Monaco Yacht Show.

The launch of the highly anticipated outboard is set to be transformational for the marine industry and will deliver many advantages for superyacht tender owners over competing gasoline outboards. With petrol now not permitted on an increasing number of superyachts, the introduction of a viable diesel outboard that allows owners and operators to carry single fuel on board the mothership makes it a game-changer for the superyacht industry.

Superyacht owners, skippers and crew are being encouraged to visit Cox’s stand in the Tenders and Toys Zone to sign up to one of the demonstrations that will be taking place later in the year. Visitors to the stand will also be able to find out more about the final concept of the CXO300 via interactive technology that will enable them to navigate 360° around the entire engine.

The final concept of the CXO300 is based on the proven technology of a 4-stroke, V8 architecture. It offers at least a 25% better range compared to a gasoline outboard and is designed to last up to three times longer. It has a package volume, around half that of a state-of-the-art diesel inboard with comparable fuel efficiency. It has a 100% higher peak torque at the crankshaft than the leading gasoline 300hp outboards and is 60% higher compared to a leading 350hp. This enables the craft to reach peak torque and top power more quickly.

The CXO300 has been designed and developed in-house from the ground up for professional maritime use in collaboration with Ricardo, one of the world’s leading engineering and environmental consultancies. Ricardo is highly regarded for its expertise and knowledge in areas such as strict emissions legislation and other environmental regulations in this sector.

Cowling options will also be revealed for the first time at the show. Customers will be offered a black cowling as standard or the option of a sleeker white cowling design, which is generally the preferred choice of recreational and superyacht owners.

About Cox Powertrain

Cox Powertrain is a world-leading, innovative British engineering company, who develops marine diesel outboard engines for worldwide and multi-market applications.

It is the first company to introduce a completely new line of high powered, high performance and highly durable diesel outboard engines that have been built from the ground up specifically for marine use.

Cox’s first ground-breaking diesel outboard engine, the CXO300, which launches in November 2018, is based on a 4-stroke, V8 architecture. It delivers a combination of high power, high torque and single fuel, enabling it to offer the same performance and efficiency of an inboard but with the convenience and flexibility of an outboard.

Cox Powertrain has a global network of distributors and dealers who have been tasked with breaking the mould to deliver a sales and support service that is second to none in the marine industry.

Led by ex-Cosworth CEO, Tim Routsis, whose background lies in engine development in global automotive, aerospace and marine markets, the company’s mission from the start has been to create an iconic engine brand and deliver a completely new concept in diesel engines that will revolutionise the marine market.

Cox Powertrain’s UK head-quarters, which is based at Shoreham Airport on the South Coast of England, includes a new state-of-the-art assembly and testing facility. It is from here that Cox Powertrain’s highly skilled team of engineers utilise their decades of experience in combustion engines and premium automotive design to produce such a superior range of diesel outboard engines.

Cox Powertrain is backed by a solid shareholder base of private and institutional investors. As a result, the company has been able to implement a long-term development programme of ground-breaking new products.
