Cobham SATCOM (Nor-Shipping): High Performance 60cm Ku-band Antenna Comes to Nor-Shipping

SAILOR 600 VSAT Ku is the world’s most powerful compact antenna for all widebeam and HTS Ku-band networks, including Intelsat’s EpicNG

Nor-Shipping 2017, Oslo – Cobham SATCOM is showing the brand-new super-Light, scientifically designed and software controlled SAILOR 600 VSAT Ku on its stand at Nor-Shipping 2017 (B02-19). The latest addition to the technology leading SAILOR VSAT portfolio is a compact 60 cm-class solution, offering unmatched Ku-band reliability and link stability on a global basis, opening the world of maritime broadband on VSAT to a much wider range of vessels.

SAILOR 600 VSAT Ku is designed to leverage powerful new High Throughput Satellite Services (HTS), such as Intelsat EpicNG, which enable smaller antennas to deliver high throughput service globally. With an unprecedented G/T of 15.9 dB/K the new SAILOR 600 VSAT Ku is the most powerful 60cm class antenna ever built and together with HTS, it can provide a stable, high throughput link to enable maritime broadband globally.

By delivering a perfect balance between form factor and performance, SAILOR 600 VSAT Ku enables maritime satcom service providers to extend their portfolio and reach more end-users with a compact, hard-wearing solution that provides reliability, stability and high throughput on all Ku band satellites without sacrificing the design. Despite its size, SAILOR 600 VSAT Ku is a full Ku-band VSAT solution, enabling high bandwidth for digital applications on board that can improve operational efficiency and provide always available crew and passenger communication.

SAILOR 600 VSAT Ku is designed for quick and cost-effective deployment and at just 35 kg, it can be carried on board, making it especially relevant for installations where no cranes or forklifts are available. Dynamic Motor Brakes mean the radome can stay on in shipping and no-power situations, and because it is a super-light solution, it is more cost-effective to ship, while a single part number ensures easy ordering.

Further installation benefits include a single cable between the antenna and below deck unit, while the use of P1dB compression over frequency means that antennas may be installed without contacting the NOC for any Ku-band satellite. It also features Automatic Azimuth Calibration, so it can find the ship’s centreline automatically, saving time during installation and reducing errors.

Based on the software controlled SAILOR VSAT Technology platform, SAILOR 600 VSAT Ku features unique diagnostics and automatic event reporting, helping service providers to increase service reliability. Remote monitoring facilities include SNMP Traps and a built-in email client, providing real-time support for service providers to meet SLAs and end-users to enjoy uninterrupted connectivity. The latest software includes Shock and Vibration Monitoring, which transmits valuable extreme event data from sea to shore.

“With the advent of HTS services, our 60 cm-class Ka-band antennas have already had an impact by making global VSAT more viable for more vessels,” said Jens Ewerling, Director, Maritime Broadband, Cobham SATCOM. “With SAILOR 600 VSAT Ku, we are bringing the same installation and performance advantages to all Ku-band satellite networks. It will offer incredibly high performance on EpicNG and other Ku-band networks, enabling high-speed VSAT services on a smaller, lower-cost and easier to install platform.”

First customer shipment of the new SAILOR 600 VSAT Ku antenna is expected in June 2017.
